Rasanblaj Praxis Project Lab (RPPL)

Ou pa chwazi sa ou vle le w’ap fè yon rasanblaj ou ranmanse tout bagay.
You don’t pick and choose what you want when you make a rasanblaj, you gather everything.

— Mdme Jacqueline Epingle

Rasanblaj n. Assembly, compilation, enlist- ing, regrouping (of ideas, things, people, spirits). Not necessarily in that order! For example, fè yon rasanblaj: do a gathering, a ceremony, a protest.

Works in development in RPPL include: “Are You Sure, Sweetheart, That You Want To Be Well?”– With a title invoking Toni Cade Bambara’s The Salt Eaters, this redwood repozwa rasanblaj explores land-based connections to nature with calabashes, desires, spirits, and vertigo. “BlackLiberationMashUp” – is an ongoing performance meditation on Black diasporic literature from the 19th century to the present, and that Rasanblaj Manifesto is still in effect… Stay tuned!

In 2015, invited editor Gina Athena proposed Rasanblaj as an organizing principle for the Caribbean in a double issue of e-misférica, the Hemispheric Institute for Performance and Politics Journal at NYU.
